Interuniversitäre Ferienakademie
Since 1984 the Interuniversitäre Ferienakademie has been offering a course program every year to support talented and interested students from the organizing universities. The courses take place in mountain inns in Sarntal, they are mainly financed by donations from companies and from support associations of the participating universities, which covers in particular the travel and accommodation expenses of the participants
In addition to TUM, the Friedrich-Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the University of Stuttgart are currently participating in the Ferienakademie.
A typical holiday academy course consists of about 14 students and two professors, the program is mostly seminar-like with lectures by the participants; in some courses students also work together on a project. A leisure program, in which mountain hikes play a major role, is also an essential part of the Ferienakademie. This enables students and professors to work together intensively, which is rarely possible in everyday university life, but on the other hand, it gives many talented students an impulse to discover completely new and exciting aspects of their studies. However, this also requires a willingness of all participants to get involved, but in return it offers a unique experience that participants often live off for a long time.
Funding from TUM study grants is provided on a pro-rata basis roughly according to the size of the TUM students participating.
