StudiTUM - Houses of the students

The idea for the student learning and working houses arose from the fact that there is a latent shortage of cross-faculty working and learning spaces at all TUM campuses.

At the Garching site there are, apart from the canteen, no cross-faculty rooms that could serve as communication areas for students. Also In Weihenstephan, there are only a few of such places. At the main campus in Munich, they are completely exhausted. The target is to create a place for students which represents an identity-creating added value.

For the locations, space requirements were expressed in detail, which, in addition to study, work and seminar rooms, also create possibilities for student initiatives such as IKOM, AkaFlieg or TUFast. In addition, there shall be rooms for young mothers (breastfeeding rooms), workshops, lecture rooms and one facility per location for a small cafeteria. Additional workspaces shall be created for members of the TUM Junge Akademie and for facilities of the campus-specific student service.

The space requirements surveys have resulted the following sizes: 1500 sqm each for Garching and Weihenstephan and approx. 700 sqm for the inner city campus. In Garching and Weihenstephan, the concept can only be realized by new buildings. In Munich, the demand can be met with the renovation of a building in Gabelsbergerstrasse 43.

The Student Representation is involved in the planning of the houses of the students and we bring in our own suggestions.
